For those who don't know Naruto, the bad guy through most of the series goal was to force everyone into a Matrix style dream reality where they would have their dream life. The dream life was virtually impossible to distinguish from real life and people would be there forever. Of course, the shonen protagonist and everyone else opposed the plan because "it is not real" "peace is only meaningful if achieved in the real world".
In this video you can hear about his goals:
Something that I find interesting, is that at the end of the series Kishimoto completely changed the plan, had the main villain ousted by an alien lady and now suddenly the dream was just a preliminary phase to be killed and turned into a zombie. I wonder, why did the author felt the need to change that plan into an outright "this is bad, you will die" plan? Maybe the bad guy's plan was too compelling or receiving too much support in Japan for his liking?
I dont agree with Madara's plan as it was, but would probably agree to some modified version, like a voluntary entry into the dream world rather tham being forced into it. I also find it very hard to believe 100% of the world's population opposed it and there were no people fighting in support of Madara, specially with how shitty the Naruto world was portrayed to be.
