They dont see you as a threat and as easy pray, therefore they approach you and beg you for money or for other stuff. in 2018 when we made a class trip by train, some hobo was asking for money and for some reason i dont remember anymore, he started a conversation with me and we talked for a bit before arriving at our destination. Also when i was in college and had break, there was an Italian hobo/schizo who asked me and my friend for the etiquette of our desposit bottles (they bring money in Germany). He always drives around that area with his bus car and told us he had a son in Russia who is studying there. He even offered his sons number so we can videocall with him, i kinda regret not accepting the offer. Imagine you are chilling in your lecture in Russia and some random dudes from Germany start to videocall you.

Oh and there was also a hobo who approached me and asked me for money when i was at the christmas market in 2023. I told him i only have an EC card and no cash so he leaves me alone
