quite a lot of birds are monogamic and pair for life (quite a few mammals too) I believe this a better strategy. I mean it's pretty interesting that we could survive and become the dominant species despite being extremely fragile and weak creatures, k-reproduction+socialisation+monogamy was a total success for humans imo
