I am not sure how I feel about it, since I've never had any friends really, never mind female ones, at that, so I can't make an informed decision.
I am inclined to believe it is not really possible, though.

I'm friend since my childhood with a boy who ended up being gay. He asked me for sex recently. I refused, obviously. Even if there's no more "sexual neutrality" between us, I still consider him as a friend. It could be the same with girls.
