Surprisingly, my father was pretty laissez-faire when it comes to raising me and was quite lazy by Asian standards (cramming studies last minute the day before an exam and acing it lol)

Maybe it's the bell curve meme. Asian countries with the highest avg IQs are the most depressing anti-human dystopias from my point of view. Imagine so many young people blowing their brains out because of academics, getting shamed for slightly straying from the norm in any regard, being super submissive to authority.
