Then both because I am visibly both. Maybe as I get older, they'll be intimidated by my unexpected, brash and tactless speaking style that autism had granted me; people in this lefty city are very conflict-averse and will cede to anyone that even raises their voice. I'm the only asian dude around that speaks the way I do IRL
Anyways, for OP, I find that maximizing status through school and work can be enough to satisfy parents. Young people do get a "pass" in having their poor life situation, like crappy finances. Showing that you're working towards something can be commendable and respected
