Some peoples' metabolisms are slower than others, but more than anything a fat person's craving center goes off a lot more than others'. Add to that the addictive and plentiful junk food we're surrounded with, and it's easy to see why so many people are overweight.

But! There is a physics to this: if you consume less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. Unfortunately, studies have found that over 90% of the people who try to diet either fail, or lose the weight and then put it back on.

Statistics are against you, but it is not impossible to lose weight. Most likely you can lose some weight, but not enough to become average/skinny. And while improbable, theoretically you can slim down to a proper weight.

I've lost 70 lbs, and I've managed to keep it off for 5 years. This is after spending the majority of my life overweight/obese. I'm only overweight now, rather than morbidly-obese, and I keep fighting to lose the rest. My advice is not to lean on will-power, but to try to make slow changes in your lifestyle.

And even on this board their are members who lost a lot of weight, and now are suffering from heaps of loose skin. So there is that to look forward to even if you do manage to change your entire diet.

Well done on your weight loss man, these are also good suggestions. It is possible to do it out of sheer willpower, but you essentially need to manipulate yourself into not eating or have a very good reason to not want to eat. That and it's difficult to sustain, so this logic isn't going to apply to everyone.

Another thing worth mentioning is that if you've been obese in the past, your body will retain energy/store fat easier than someone who hasn't. So it's objectively going to be more difficult to keep the weight off when you do lose it.

Loosing weight is a hard thing to do if youre trapped in a negative feedback circle. Dont forget OP here in youre thread are people who dont even go outside, are higly anxious people around people, etc. Dont let their comments drag your down. They have enough to solve for themselve. Theyre just shitting on you because theyre ugly and thin and youre fat and ugly and they bully you because of this. Being fat is mostly genetic and I hope you find the power to eat less if you can sacrifice this cope

I'm genetically screwed too but I'm going to try to stop drinking soda and any drinks with sugar and only eat once or twice a day and see what happens because I've been exercising for a month and I'm still 40 lbs overweight. I actually did Atkins 10 years ago and got to my lowest weight, 140, from 175, but gained it all back plus 35 lbs. My fattest was 210. I'm 5'5" and 1/2". My fat weight is now 30-35 lbs heavier than it used to be.

Even if you eat only 1% more than you consume you will gain weight continuously. 50 calories intake above consumption per day can make you morbidly obese.

It's hormones. 2000 calories of daily high sugar, high frequency eating will make someone fatter than low sugar, low frequency eating with the same calorie count. How, you may ask? The latter diet preserves more muscle.

Though i'd agree with you that genetics play a BIG factor in your overall weight/ability to lose weight... that doesn't mean that you can't gymcel alot and eat at a caloric deficit to go from being "Obese" to just slightly chubby.
When you have obese genetics you'll likely be "Slightly chubby" even when you're gymcelling but that's monumentally better than obese.
 
It's an unpopular opinion, but I am inclined to agree that, much like every other physical attribute, metabolism, weight, and the rest, all is heavily influenced by genetics.
I always encounter people who have either always been skinny, or always been fat. Many just eat whatever the hell they want, without thinking, and stay slim their whole lives. The people who use to be fat, seem to have to keep up insane lifestyle regimes to stay fit, and if they slip up in the slightest it piles back on in months, and they all falter eventually. They say "just eat normally", but I'd be willing to bet you, like many others who hate themselves for being overweight, actually don't eat as much as the average person because of that.
