So since my grandma deosnt charge me rent, I like to pick up my weight (Im 25 and I live there) and what better way to do so then do some trade like work in the house or clean it on other occasions? From replacing a wax ring twice due to grandma getting the wrong size to getting shocked replacing outlets to doing a shit job cleaning a furnace and put my self at risk of Hanta virus by going down the fucking crawl space full of mice shit.
Well today was a more relaxing and less hazardous job as long as I kept the vacum working. Also anoyed my grandma since I had to turn off the heating and its cold in January at WA state. Well I had to do it so I can clean out the air ducts considering that its full of fucking dust and hopfully not more hanta virus, and step 2 of the proccess is taking out the air vents and using a special brush to soften the dust. Step 3 is vacum all that shit out and step 4 is repeat on other vents.
Well lets get to the point and that point is that most of the time in trades, you need power tools. And theres thos trend of dumb fucks who instead of using a drill, they use a impact driver. And they use that driver for things you can use a drill for. Hell there's even hex drill bits for drivers made by fucking Milwakee. But there's just a problem. Its unnecessary bullshit that these impact drivers are and heres why.
Everything I see a tradesman in facebook use a impact driver for, can just as easily be done with a drill. The only advantage a impact driver has over a drill is power. Thats it. And it is outweight by the drills benifits. Drills cost less then impact drivers, are more versitle except for high torqe demands like lag bolts and well really bolts/nuts that are under high torqe. Now lets talk about the drill. A drills chuck allows you to attacth way more things on the chuck that isnt fucking 1/4 hex bits. Look at the picture on this thread.
You cant attacth that duct cleaning brush on a impact driver. You just fucking cant. Now you can nag about how on a driver its easyer quick connect on the types of bits. Then get a 1/4 extension adapter and put it on the fucking drill. Boom! Now you can have that same quick connect/disconnect that you get on a impact driver. Portabity isnt much of a factor since theres special bend adapters for hard to reach spaces. And as somone who unfortunately owned both here is what else I have to say. When I got the m12 drill it came bundled with 2 batterys the small ones, and a hub charger that can charge both m12 and m18 batterys for 130$ at Mclendons. 1 month later I decided maybey I should get the driver for my HVAC class... For the same 130$ I got the impact driver from Milwaukee (granted at the home depot) and it came with the impact driver. No batterys, no charger. Just the driver. Thats a huge fucking vaule difference for what you can get for 130$. Not imagine this, you got to do alot of house work. Witch of the 2 would you rather get? A impact driver alone. Or for the same price a drill with a charger and 2 batterys that will be usable with more then 1/4 hex bits, even twist wire for electrical work, can attach a duct cleaning brush or anything that fits in it, and take bits that the driver wont even fucking take?
Ill end it with this. Dont buy a impact driver. If you need 2 drills for 2 different things. Then get 2 drills instead of a drill and impact driver. Dont blow money on tools that seem flashy and cool to the new generation. Be practical. Use your head. Same thing with retards who prefer lifted trucks or 4runners over somthing for practical like a Station Wagon or a small Hatchback. Hell a CRV would be a 100 percent superior option to a 4runner due to practicallity.
If you want to get into the trade. Dont just gobble up advice from trade celebrities. Use your head. Think about what youll be doing and know what youll be doing as a trade. Dont buy shit you dont need.
And if you want to be a plumber, remeber :
"Dont play with shit if you cant handle the smell"
