I'm assuming that some of you are good with software/computers (after all, you don't have social lives, so what do you do all day?). So here's my problem:

My Windows Media Player (that I use to jerk off to porn) only plays audio, but no video. This happened after I recently replaced my hard drive on my desktop. Before then, it worked fine.

I tried virtually every solution under the sun to resolve this issue, including the following, all to no avail:

I also tried troubleshooting the media player and media player library, and got the following messages:

Media library is corrupt

configuration settings might be set incorrectly

But, there's no mention on how to solve the issue, and it doesn't allow me to go any further. Whoever designed this "troubleshooter" must've been a genius.

I once had this Media Player problem years ago (on another desktop), and was able to resolve the issue by simply uninstalling media player, and reinstalling it. But, this is no longer possible because the latest version of WMP is now an integral part of Windows 10 software, and can't be removed. It can only be disabled and enabled (which does nothing). So, I'm stuck with this stubborn problem.

Does anyone have any ideas I haven't already tried?

FYI: I'm using Windows 10 and latest version of Windows Media Player (version 12.01...)

Oh, and I already have VLC player (which plays .mpeg files) installed on my desktop. But, I much prefer Windows Media Player because it allows me to move video forward and backward one frame at a time, which is great for porn (VLC player doesn't allow this, and it's a clunky product overall).

Thanks, man.

I was gonna suggest vlc but you already mentioned that.

over for softwareissuecels

Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn windows features on or off -> Disable Windows Media Player in Media Features

Restart

Enable again.

Restart

pin me if this works or not
Sorry, man. I thought you meant "PM" me.
Anyway, as I've said in my email, it doesn't work. Useless feature. You should be able to completely uninstall WMP and reinstall it. "Disabling" and "enabling" it does nothing. I fucking hate these giant, dictatorial companies (like Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc.) that, once they consolidate their power, start imposing shit like this on you.

Mention me tomorrow (in 12 hours)

Go to C:\Program Files x86\Windows Media Player\

Click on setup_wm and tell me what it does.

I'm pretty illiterate on this shit. How do you "go to C:\Program Files x86\Windows Media Player\"? Start>Search?

>Go to file explorer
>Go to Windows (c)
>Go to the Windows file
>Right click the system 32 file
>Click delete
>Reset PC
Problem solved.

Everything was going great until I clicked on "delete". Then, I got this message:

"You require permission from trusted installer to make changes to this folder"

Would this have uninstalled WMP from my desktop? If so, where would I then go to reinstall it? There are literally NO websites that offer this download anymore, including the Microsoft website. 5 years ago, this was possible. Not anymore. I feel like I'm living in fucking Bizarro World. Everything is upside down.

Don't do this lol.

Click the folders in your taskbar at the bottom of screen
Then click the C drive

JFL don't do that lol.

Could it be that, when I replaced my hard drive, Windows automatically installed the latest version of its software on my desktop, including the latest version of Windows Media Player (which no longer supports .mpeg files)? The Windows Media Player I had with my old hard drive played this .mpeg files just fine, but I can't go back to that version, unless I reinstall my old hard drive.

I think you're right.

I think you're right.
Can't believe how cynical and opportunistic these big companies are, automatically forcing software on us whenever we make a change on our computers (e.g. replacing hard drive, etc.). This software almost always has less functionality than previous versions. This is why I'm so adamant about the SEC breaking up these de facto monopolists.

We need more Curries in here helping with their tech support skills.

Idk what any of that means

lmao
You corrupted something when you upgraded your hdd.
I would sugggest getting vlc and mpc-hc.
use linux, windows is shit and getting more shitier by the day.
What distro would you suggest?

Can it be fixed?
Also, as I mentioned in my thread, I already have VLC player. It's not nearly as good a Windows Media Player, and would prefer to not use it unless absolutely forced to.

I am no good with computers but if the problem can not be resolved my method is use the axe it solves everything.
