I disagree with the "religion lied to me" part, unless you were taught a phony feel-good Joel Osteen prosperity gospel. To be a Christian often means taking on more suffering in this world, not less. There's also brutal truths in the bible like the Matthew Effect, which states that people of wealth and abundance often get more abundance, while people who have little will have further taken away from them, and the gap between advantaged and disadvantaged grows as life progresses. I think many of us here understand that effect intimately well, since we were born disadvantaged and now have fallen further behind in life, missing out on experiences and opportunities. And if you think that the point of being a good person is to be rewarded, God will see you as no better than any worker who works for a wage, not that there's something morally wrong about that, but it's more neutral, self-interested, whereas true good would be helping others because you want to help them, not for personal gain.
