because if they went to war with Russia then there wouldn't be a world left to be the strongman in. Really the US probably could beat Russia in a conventional war just because we have trillions of dollars in advanced weapon systems that could destroy most of their army in a few months but the days of conventional warfare between nuclear armed superpowers are long over.

China is desperately trying to build its carrier killer missiles, and strengthen its navy for a showdown with the American pacific fleet sometime in the near future. At the same time, building roads in western China into Eurasia for the worst case scenario if the American pacific fleet doesn't get destroyed.
