As a teenager, one of my heros was J.K Galbraith. He was a 1950s Liberal and Progressive who wrote about his ideal society. He argued from the perspective of marginal utility, how a dollar in the hands of the poor is better off in the hands of the high earner. He argued that you can raise net aggregate human happiness by thwarting temptation wants (wants artificially created via marketing departments) and instead investing in things that actually make us happy. He proposed high progressive income tax, high sales tax, government funded healthcare, government research grants, public parks and schools, beautifying the cities, more bargaining power for workers to take more time off, capital gains taxes, sovereign wealth funds, regulation of industry, nationalization of utilities, pandemic defense funds.
If it weren't for my jealousy and envy of Foids and Chads, knowing they'd reap most of these benefits, I would support these policies. It's crazy how my low status position turned me from an altruistic socialist to a raging wealthmaxxing ancap.
