Not really. Both things can be true at the same time. Women are hypergamous by nature, that’s a cause. Social media and dating apps amplified their already existing hypergamy, that’s another cause. These two reasons, along with others did play a role in making men have lower standards and becoming incels, but that doesn’t mean that men’s low standards didn’t independently contribute to further amplifying hypergamy and incel phenomena. Two things can be true at the same time. They reinforce each other. Even if dating apps and social media would stay, if men, as a group decided to actually have some standards, it would, I believe, lower women’s standards a little. I hope the idea is clearer now.

Thanks for sharing your thought. First of all, just because men have lower standards by nature doesn’t mean that they can’t consciously control how to act on their desires. We have so many strong desires, we don’t act on them all the time. Second of all, yes, if you alone lowered your standards it will likely be meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Maybe that’s true. But the whole point is that men, as a collective need to have a little higher standards. I’m so doing, I believe that this will lower women’s standards a little. Moreover, there are things that make a difference that are easy to implement and would definitely lower their standards. For example, how many thousands of times you see men, armies of men, simping on a girls instagram and posting the stupid pathetic Lego man gif. There are literally hundreds of millions of simping comments. I never wrote even one. That’s something that’s so easy to implement. Imagine the girl who gets countless simping comments all day every day. If men treated her like a normal human being, she wouldn’t have such a god complex. I know that because I lived in a culture where women aren’t allowed to post thirst trap pics on insta and many don’t post their pics at all, and they DEFINITELY have lower standards.
