There are a few people that are not very well known but that are remarkable and worthy of remembering. I try to keep a mental note about them.
One of them is Suleiman al-Halabi. He killed the French general Kleber in 1800, but that's not why I think he's a remarkable person (not that I think killing that general was bad or anything, he was at least in his mind defending his country against a foreign invader, which is perfectly respectable).
What is remarkable is that he was sentenced to a very gruesome execution, and yet he withstood it with tremendous courage and dignity.
It is very inspirational as it shows that a man, with enough strength of character, really can endure the worst things.
I don't want to fall into a not as bas as fallacy, but still, it does put things in perspective.
