There are plenty of wars at this time but they are all small scale. Join the military and they will ship you to the field if you really want it but let me explain that you won't have any legacy. Soldiers are pawns, statistics. When you die only a few will actually care. All of these celebrations for veterans are just part of the government trying to Max out the public support for war, they don't care about soldiers at all (see veteran suicide rates). Ask yourself whether you can name a historical soldier and then you will realize what I mean.

No you dont. When World War 1 was getting ready to start men from different countries especially America couldn't wait to fight. They thought it would be an adventure. When the war started and they had to watch their friends get gassed next to them in the trenches they couldn't wait to go home. This is a reason why Europe let Hitler get away with his initial conquest because they remembered the previous war and didnt want to repeat it unless absolutely neccessary.
