and i mean genuinely and actually believe in it, but i can't because i'm an atheist.
stuff like mysticism, the occult and the dark arts are pretty fascinating if you actually look into it.
i'm not going to believe in something i know doesn't exist but believe it anyway because of some power of imagination bullshit like alan moore would.
fuck that boomer leftist hypocrite.

Psychology has shown that the mind and intention can have powerful effects on your body and possibly on reality itself
The occult, religion, spirituality etc. are just extensions of that, and just as chemistry had roots in alchemy, psych has roots in occultism and spirituality, with Freud and Jung having interests in it.

So if you want secular interpretations of the occult learn about psych

If you believe in something, it means that you're not sure it's true but you think it's more likely to be true than false. Conceptually, you can't "believe in" something that you know is real i.e., true. When something is confirmed to be true it leaves the realm of beliefs (probabilities and plausibilities) and enters into the realm of facts.

If you've already made up your mind on what is and what isn't real, then when any new information enters your experience and possibly challenges the boundaries of your worldview you will attempt to rationalize it so that it either falls inside or outside of the purview of what is and what isn't possible. In simple terms, it's self-limiting. This leaves you in the precarious position where you can never be sure if anything real and novel to your conscious experience is in fact real. You will always seek explanations that make sense according to your worldview. And if it doesn't, then you will fear a mental breakdown and possibly lose your mind.

There are things in reality that are more wondrous and mysterious than any work of fantasy can possibly conjure up. The rest I leave for you to explore.

Probably because it's like superpowers.

It’s fun and entertaining, and I’ve read a few occultist books, but I can’t bring myself to believe in any of it even if I tried

Occult just means hidden...

You think there's any stuff thats hidden?
