I was watching some old YouTube videos from before 2010 and I started to compare the culture that lead to those videos being made vs the internet culture of day and at first I was a little saddened but than I became a little angry as I started thinking about the cause, Normalfags. They invaded the internet and it's culture like they have invaded every other community that outsiders like us enjoy to participate in and ruined it. The technology of today couldn't be any better but the culture couldn't be any worse than it is now, normalfags have infected the culture of the internet with their bullshit. They constant need for a dopamine rush having them rush towards a niche community destroying it within weeks and leaving it in disrepair as the move on to the next thing that keeps their short attention span. Normalfags brought you tranny BS and the defense to their culture destroying behavior a behavior the internet once proudly defended against. When a bunch of faggots who liked My little pony a little way to much tried to infiltrate nearly every internet community at the time they were routine bullied out of those communities not because they had weird likes but because they were annoying about, now normalfags ban you from communities you've been in longer them for because you are against such abhorrent behavior.

Normalfags also brought a lack of serenity to internet culture while treating everything with complete seriousness, These normalfags will get mad at you for calling a straight man a faggot for acting like one in a video game but will never be genuine with you. This "irony poisoning" has affected internet culture for the worse as you can no longer have an honest conversation with anyone as not only will they avoid it with their own version of "trolling" but they will also use anything you reveal about yourself that could damaging against you. This has resulted in a more pessimistic and cruel internet which is unfortunate because the internet used to be quite the fun place to be on but normalfags have infected every inch of it even once "sacred" places for old internet culture have such as 4chan have been infected by this diseased culture.

I wish I could go back to 2008 as an adult just so I can experience and fully appreciate the culture on the internet before normalfags ruined it forever something I will never forgive them for.

It's ruined everything nowadays the only way to rid yourself of moralfagging normies is to be a nazi or any other such thing it's a necessity nowadays even if you don't believe it, but still you'll get some fags. Yeah, irony poisoning is a massive problem that doesn't get called out nearly enough. One thing I would attribute the rise of "irony poisoning" to is the "cringe culture" that was massive on the internet back in the early to mid 2010s. Cringe subreddits blew up, cringe compilation videos were huge on youtube, youtubers like leafyishere were dunking on eccentric individuals on the internet, and lolcows that were once only discussed on fringe parts of the internet became much more well known due to youtubers covering them. The middle and younger parts of gen z grew up with this content. The message they took from all this was that being "cringe" was the one thing you wanted to avoid being at all costs. So as a defensive reaction, they began hiding under "layers of irony" being terrified of showing any aspect of their true self, which could potentially leave them open to ridicule. Others also took a more offensive by jumping on any opportunity to call someone cringe to elevate their own relative status (SOMEBODY has to be seen as "cringe", "it's them or me").

There's also the whole "self-deprecating humor" humiliation ritual that most gen z (as well as some millennials) feel the need to do frequently in order to "beat any potential criticism to the punch". I understand their motive for doing this, i understand their compulsion to vocalize how self-aware they are of their flaws...but at the same time self-deprecating humor is so overdone it's annoying and off-putting.

I don't hate irony but there's a time and a place for it....but these days everyone seems to think that time is always and the place is everywhere. Sincerity, honesty, and openness are quickly becoming archaic artforms. You can no longer directly say what your opinion is and explain why, that's "cringe" and something only "boomers" do. No, today all ideas must be expressed through surreal, smug, passive-aggressive post-ironic, memes. It's either that or you counter-signal someone with a generic "snappy" one-liner followed by a passive aggressive emoji, usually either skull face emoji, nerdy face emoji, laughing while crying emoji, or the two top trending ones now, which are the wilting rose emoji, or the crying emoji-peace sign emoji combo. I'm too old for this shit.

People are quick to blame "bots" or "ai slop" for the downfall of the internet, but the Big Black Capsule we all need to take in and swallow is this is a people problem.

By the way 2010 youtube was already trash that's when they ruined the old youtube for "youtube partners" (what became known as "youtubers"). And at that point it was like 2 years since iphone.

late 90s-before iphone was the sweet spot, it had a wide range of characters and weirdos with the more sophisticated users, before they opened the floodgates, and before silicon valley consolidated basically all internet traffic into a handful of sites. before that it looks pretty good too with newsgroups but too stuffy overall.
