I just remembered a crazy fact that I've never told anyone. I literally used to be a flat earther, for a couple of months at least.
This happened when I was around 12-13 years old. I went down a rabbit hole on YouTube watching various conspiracy theory videos about chemtrails, flat earth, aliens, area 51, lizard people, the afterlife etc.
This happened during a time in which my belief in Christianity was falling apart, but my belief in agnosticism was not yet solidified so I was open minded to any possibility - whether that be some deranged conspiracy theory that the Christian God is actually the devil, or that aliens operate amongst us, or that the Earth is flat and our souls are being harvested in a higher dimensional plane.
For some period of time I was scared of being awake at 3:30am because I watched a video about how large-headed, black-eyed, grey aliens secretly exist on Earth and can teleport to you at that time of day, but if you're sleeping they would just stand in your room peacefully and watch you sleep, so you'd better be asleep at that time.
At one point I was scared that the planet Nibiru was destined to collide with Earth imminently, ending life as we know it, but NASA was covering it up because they are ran by elite supernatural overlords. I wasn't entirely convinced of this, but it was looming in my head for the days coming up to the supposed collision and I was ready for those days to be my last.
I remember going to school and feeling a small sense of superiority in science class because I was the only person in the room who knew about these conspiracies, particularly the flat Earth conspiracy, which if true, would make everyone else in the room "sheep" who have fell for the greatest conspiracy of all time.
I told nobody about this as I knew I'd become a laughing stock if I did, and my reputation as the smartest student in the school (my only positive social trait) would immediately be destroyed.
Yes that's right. I somehow fell for all of these conspiracies despite being an extremely intelligent child who was known for being a math prodigy.
After a couple months of this I began to watch more videos on agnosticism (e.g. DarkMatter2525's youtube videos) which allowed me to solidify my belief of agnosticism and move away from the conspiracy theories and back to real science.
So yeah... it seems so strange that this happened because I've never seen any fellow high IQ individual fall for such obvious BS. I am literally studying physics at what is often considered the #1 university globally and I unironically once believed that Earth is flat. I have no idea how I would even begin to admit that to my peers.
Has this happened to any fellow high-IQcels?
TL;DR
