Several months ago there was a major incident in the flat building I live in. The issue was severe enough where everyone was evacuated and told to live somewhere else for the time being until they fixed the problem. The issue was so bad that they didn't have a timeframe when it would be safe enough to move back in.
As I live alone in this city with no friends or family, I had no options. This was a very scary time in my life as I was facing the possibility of becoming homeless.
Luckily the local council was aware of the situation and gave me temporary accommodation in a hotel until the issue was fixed.
I thought I would take this opportunity to test how much my friend cares about me. I've known him since 2015 and have spend a great deal of time with him. It was concerning enough that my gut feeling was that he would be very irritated, angry and annoyed at the idea of me asking him for help.
Here was the message exchange:
Me:
Some crazy things happened here lately. Last month there was a fault in the building. Management came down and knocked on everyone's door at night telling us to get out, we can't stay here anymore until it's fixed
I got made homeless for two weeks man
Most stressful period of my life
Him: That's hardly crazy
Bloody hell
But your paying the rent
They can't just throw you out like that
Did you sleep rough or at a homeless shelter
Me: they gave me a refund for the days I couldn't stay
The council put a prohibition order on the building so they couldn't allow us to stay
they also couldn't provide any emergency accommodation
Him: Damn son
Yet they can provide hotels and free PlayStations to illegal immigrants
Me: I also messaged my uncle on the day that i was in an emergency... and he left me on read, never got back to me
Him: Jheez
And that's it. He stopped replying. Barely any empathy or concern JFL
If this message exchange was the other way around, I actually would have been pissed that my friend didn't ask me for help. I would gladly let him stay at my place until he could go back. Because you know, that's what friends do.
