Theory I think that even 20 years ago we had "more internet" than we do today, especially in countries with more speech restrictions

Like... in even 2000 or 2005... the net was much smaller. But you had so much more freedom of speech that... there was more that you could say and do overall.

So it was like... a smaller pie but you got so much of it that overall you got more.

That's just how it looks to me anyway.

Honestly I think I had more freedom and potential on the internet even 25 years ago compared to today.

I used to go on some great forums and all sorts.

In the early-mid 2000s i didn't have an internet connection so i couldn't properly experience the golden age of the internet.

Only got an internet connection in 2007

I mean, to be honest I think the best the internet got was... maybe about 2015. So I really don't think you missed the best bit. In fact... if you were online from 2007-2015 I think you saw all of the real golden age

The net in about 2002... I think it was still really cool, overall. I used to play Phantasy Star Online, go on a PSO forum, play Counter-Strike, go on MSN, use MySpace and LiveJournal... overall it was pretty great!

100% the internet was so much more free than it is now, even though i never experienced it 20 years ago because i was too young its pretty much been my life the moment i first used it in the late 2000's

Absolutely, and that's what made the internet so great. It was like the wild west, before corporations and world governments got their full stranglehold over it.
