Didn't the Scottish government try this like 2 times now. I don't see it happening. In any case the smaller republics would still rely heavily on England's economic influence. It would be autonomy in the sense paper but not in practice.

How would we? We've got more resources than england and a smaller population. Scotch whiskey is second biggest revenue earner after the city of london. They export it through liverpool so the uk treasury get the money for it. They've got no deep water harbours to store the nuclear deterrent in England. To build the infrastructure for one would cost billions. If we cost them money they'd of gotten shot of us by now. Why do you think they fought so hard to keep us in the union?
