Lose your job, lose your health insurance, you're completely fucked, even if you do have money to pay rent or have someone to house you.

$500 a month for health insurance gets you a $15,000 deductible in the USA if you buy it directly.

Get evicted or bad credit? No one will ever rent to you. You're just so fucked either way.
