Thats why time skips are such a big thing. Coz you know characters actually have to age.

Thats why when the characters are finally adults they usually leave it to the end of the story where everyone's lives are explained in 5 minutes. Coz they don't want to elaborate on the depressing shit that is adult life.

I guess the same could be said of many fictional stories. But the thing is in the west, a lot of the cast are ALREADY ADULTS.
