For the last few months I have been socially engaged (workcelling in a good job) and on anti-depressants, after a few years of LDARing which were unsustainable.
My mood has changed. I have become much more social, much more stable, and much more "conformist". Overall, I would classify this as an improvement, mostly because I am more stable. But... From an intellectual perspective, the improvement is not clear.
My brain saturated with serotonin and tired by workcelling has become extremely conformist. My natural tendency is now to embrace the majority idea on any topic, instead of being a contrarian. I simply don't have the will or energy anymore to approach things from a rational angle (except in some niche topics where I am still unable to embrace majority viewpoints).
So basically, normies aren't stupid, they just have a brain that is saturated with serotonin and "oversocialized" - - by default, they condemn unpopular opinions and embrace popular ones, without analyzing things from a rational perspective, simply because this strategy pays off. They don't care about truth, they just care about social success and acceptance.
Suffering actually improves philosophical insight, because when you're an outcast, you can finally start thinking about the truth without any bias. The problem is that the truth leads nowhere except bitter cynicism.
