Any oldcels remember Google Video? There was a time where Youtube and Google Video were separate services - different UIs, different users, different videos. Some were uploaded to both (e.g. The Tourettes Guy, K-Fee ads), others remained exclusives.

It was back in 2014, and moderation system wasn't very strict. A lot of people used to post JAVs and hentai on it, and it took from months to a whole year just to be taken down. I was still 8 years old back then, but didn't know what sex was. Only watched them for the thrill jfl

This. Youtube was great before the partner program and then they shifted to focusing on "youtubers"/"content creators" instead of everyone making videos. There used to be robust communities on youtube with everyone having their own comment walls where discussion could be had. There was a lot of back and forth videos with videos, you could make responses to videos and have them accept it as a response so it would be linked on the bottom of the video.
Just overall it was way better. That was also before the AI auto mods that shadow ban the most innocuous shit (which you wouldn't know since it shows your post as being there until you log out or check it with another account). You used to be able to have legitimate conversation/debates in the comment sections with links to back up what you were saying, eventually they became overzealous in preventing spam so that you couldn't share any links at all.
It had a few updates to the layout that made things worse but that partner program is when shit went south, and then they made further updates to remove the community aspect and focus on big yooootubers.

I've always been so interested in the early 2000s as I've never experienced anything like this. Given that I was an infant at the time, I'm a little jealous. I wish I could have been born much earlier to experience this era of the internet and gaming/anime. I remember back when I was very young I would grab my mother's phone and spend hours watching Halo and Anime AMV's still, being on the internet during the 2000's. It must've been such a unique experience compared to the modern-day internet.

I remember spending a huge part of my childhood in internet cafes. In the late 2000s-early 2010s I was just playing Y8.com and MSPaint as a 3-5 year old JFL. I still remember Youtube somewhat from back then. I think I remember getting scolded by the staff for trying to look up porn. I probably typed in "sexy girl", honestly I didn't even know what that was but I heard it from a song so I wanted to look it up
