That's going to be a challenge then in doing a PhD, since you have to focus on one specific thing for years on end. I have a similar problem: interests are too broad and varied, which is why spending 5+ years of life focusing on one singular thing didn't appeal to me as a time investment. It would be nice to be able to collaborate and do joint-effort research with multiple departments as part of your degree, then everybody gives part of the defense that is related to their field. It would make for more interesting research efforts, but sadly that's not how academia works.
Brutally over for me if true
I dont care either way, Ill still give it a shot, even if I might be headed for a brutal car crash
Im not working a 9-5 if I dont have a girlfriend

Master's, also contemplating whether to pursue a PhD. I'm leaning more and more towards not doing one (50-50 still). From the people I've spoken with most said they were eager to get it over with in the last 1-2 years. Some said they even worked up to 60 hours sometimes, depending on the experiments they had to perform. Up to 80 hours months before writing their dissertation. It's something that you really need to have some good internal reasons for in order to last and survive the journey. Ie, you need to be passionate about academia and science, want to pursue a postdoc career and in addition wouldn't mind teaching undergraduates/graduates. When it comes to wages, PhD on average only make slightly more than Master's. However, in the 3-5 years you are working after your Master's degree you're gaining a lot of experience and multiple raises.
The thing is I dont mind working if I can occasionally get up and go do shit, like go eat out or something or go on a date if I get one
With normal work the worst thing is that I know that every day I will be in this particular building doing this thing from 9am until 5pm
Im an MS too and I find myself working on Saturdays and Sundays because its fun, I usually put some movie in the background that I watch while I work so Im not too bored - cant do that at work, 9-5 M-F
Also like I mentioned, you can half ass things in academia since what youre working on is not a real product, no waiting on your manager to sign off paperwork, no trying something for shits and giggles because you wanna see what would happen
