Those groups existed and were funded by the U.S. originally to fight off the Soviets during the Cold War, which at the time we saw it as worth it despite the risk of them backfiring against us. We would've left them alone already if it wasn't for the September 11, 2001 when our freedoms were under attack and never again safe.
