I hate the way people talk to down syndrome people

You know that slow childlike voice that people talk to down syndrome people with? I've also been on the recieving end of it before because of how obviously autistic and fucked up i am and it just pisses me off

Why did talking to unfortunate people like that become the default? There's literally nothing about talking like you're talking to a toddler that is inherently more understandable than just talking like you would talk to a normal person, obviously talk a bit more clearer, but idk why people just overdo tf out of it

It's dehumanising, the actual best most respectful thing you can do to down syndrome people etc, is to literally just talk to them like you would anyone else, that's magnitudes more respectful than speaking to them like an actual 3 year old
