it was a fun idea at beginning especially for games like resident evil 2 which made sense to do so. But it has just became a easy nostalgia bait cashgrab for corporations now. Like for example dead space resident evil 4 and last of us none of those game needed a remake but normies as usual will eat anything corpo overlords throws at them. tbf yakuza is still a very niche genre. Normies haven't been able to invade it with how much dialogues and attention it requires. Yakuza community bullied the shit out of that soy consuming korean youtuber who was voicing kiryu in english

I think only N64/PS1 games really need a remake. PS2/GameCube games and onwards have aged fine.

N64/PS1 graphics can sometimes be distracting enough to ruin the intended emotional effects.

For example, RE1 PS1 just isn't scary anymore. (The sequels on PS1 have aged fairly well but RE1 looks like shit)
RE remake is actually scary to a degree and massively benefited from having more realistic visuals afforded to it by the GameCube's power.


Ocarina of Time is another example. The original is genuinely hideous and the blocky ugly character models can take you out of dramatic moments. Ocarina of Time 3d, while having worse lightning and some inferior moments like the Ganon fight, overall looks better and in turn is a more dramatic and immersive experience.

Final Fantasy 7 should've been remade on the PSP with Crisis Core engine. Unfortunately, that probably would've been shit too because they just loved putting in more worthless plot twists even back then.


In all honesty, I think remake is an extension of the original games problems. The original game progressively became worse and worse story wise as more and more ridiculous and convoluted plot twists were forced in. The remake and crisis core continue this same style of story telling.

RE1’s brightly colored rooms gave it an eerie atmosphere. REmake looks like a generic haunted house. REmake was also one of the first games to start the “take color out of everything” trend, flooding everything with brown, green, and grey.

Games that are great but rough around the edges, like a lot of 2000s early 2010s immersive sims like EYE Divine Cybermancy or Arx Fatalis are deserving of REMASTERS not remakes. Hard to think of any games that should have a remake in an objective sense

Honestly I kind of like it to an extent. Most games being remade either where never officially on PC or are hard to run on modern hardware without having to fuck with downloading community patches or messing with the files. That being said I would much prefer that the OG games would be updated so they can run on modern PCs and be available on steam rather than a full remake.

Should’ve done re1 first
