Figures. What's with his obsession with sea creatures?. I remember someone telling me that fish people were supposed to represent his fear of non whites or something. But why specifically use fish and such as inspiration.
Lovecraft form young age was fascinated with science,that includes biology (When he was young and wanted to know what sex is, he started reading a book on human physiology. kek).This inspiration for sea like creatures, probably comes from his disgust with squids (@Napoleon de Geso sry) and all octopus related animals. Though it's not expression of his rascism. Lovecraft's rascism in his work varies from blunt racism (visible in The Rats in the Walls, where the main character's cat is name Niggerman) to a more subtle, like in Facts Concering the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family, in which fear of miscegenation is major theme.
