https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/rlcraft is apparently a much harder expansion since you can't chop trees by hand and need to locate gravel to get flint shards to build your first axe for this puporse
it would make killing villagers all the more rewarding but you need to kill their golem first to harvest his steel
ultimately it's better not to kill civilians/villagers though because you can level up their trading relationships to get diamond gear so you can save the diamonds you mind for repairs after you enchant your stuff with lapis
