If you can't beat the game without cheating then don't play it. You haven't played an old game if you use save states.

I've used save files to beat certain fights plenty of times before. Main example I can think of is serious sam and brutal doom. Judge me if you want but it was pretty necessary if I didn't want to have to retry the whole level a million times because of one hard fight

I only use savestates in doom since doom have no checkpoint mechanic

I also use savestates when I get too lazy and tedious games that punishes you by starting over

I do not use save states to beat a game, but they are useful when you have a game that depends a lot on random drops or events as it cuts down on a lot of tedium.

For instance the "meat" drops of monsters for SaGa 2 and 3 for the Nintendo DS. The meat that monsters drop only happens by chance and while the monster you get by eating it does follow a pattern, the game does not really spell out the process and the traits or mutations you get are also by chance. Using save states before eating the meat of a monster seems like common sense.

I like cheating through a game, and being able to explore it and play through it with less stress. Isn't that the point of video games as a cope?

No, the point of videogames as a cope is using your skills and abilities to overcome the challenges presented by the game. Videogames with no challenge are usually boring as fuck.

True, I just suck at games though, so I use cheats to balance it out.

there's a difference between difficulty and tedium. if i can get through 80% of the area and only the last 20% is giving me trouble why would I opt to redo the long section I mastered over and over just to get to what I'm actually interested in overcoming?

high iq individuals always use cheat engine and turn on god mode

Yeah

What challenge or fun is there going through a tedious section 1000s of times just to reach the boss
