As far as I understand things, he had sex with Stormy Daniels, then had his lawyer Michael Cohen pay her $130,000 to stay quiet about the whole affair, and now he's being indicted for having lied about it

Since when did infidelity become a crime in America? Or am I missing something?

I thought the charges were because the records were covered up on top of being payed for with campaign finances. Still think it's bullshit because everyone involved in the case has some sort of bias and degree of personal involvement involving Trump, but it's not solely for paying her off.
