I guarantee that if you were to popularize Strongman in the US and have it offer the same incentives as American Football, then you'd see blacks dominating the sport as well.
Well the thing you really have to examine here is the per capita number of genetically superior and thus, profoundly strong individuals within any demographic subset. If you look at jews on a per capita basis, you'll find that the median and mean strength of their males is far inferior when contrasted with nearly every other conceivable class of person, excepting perhaps certain Asian subsets (though not Polynesians or Pacific Islanders more generally). Whereas, when you take a random sample or polling of the Scandanavian males, you will find that they have the genetic template and morphology for strength and power.
The point about availability and cultural popularity is a fair one and I will concede that much of the over representation of the Nordic race is a function of their cultural conditioning which extols the types of virtues rewarded in these competitions. I'm not aware of any studies and I don't think that any ethnologist or anthropologist who was interested in quantifying the disparities between ethnic or racial groups as they pertain to strength would ever get funding for such a provocative study. Just look at Charles Murray's attempt to empirically validate the IQ differential between various races and how the jews incited a veritable fire storm of indignation and controversy over a completely innocuous and well founded scientific enterprise. My experience with the jews is considerable, though exclusively anecdotal. I was born and raised and have lived most of my life in an area infested with them so I have had ample opportunity to observe their physical characteristics and contrast those with the typical white, black, hispanic male, etc.
If you use American football as the sample for evaluating strength I think you will find that the number of blacks who play in positions that rely exclusively on brute force (tackle, guard and end) is proportional to the overall representation of blacks in the sport as a whole. It's axiomatic that more blacks play professional sports then do whites but I think you could make the argument that the over representation of blacks is a function of cultural reinforcement which inculcates the desire to perform physically and publicly as well as their diminished intellectual capacities when contrasted with whites, which offers them fewer conventional opportunities for socio-economic advancement.
