It seems like a massive waste of resources. In a decade or two we will have BCI-Integrated AR/VR which will allow for you to experience VR worlds in all five senses potentially. Being able to inhabit a virtual world with an AI-powered virtual avatar GF seems far more likely. It's like this - physical discs for games are dying out and turning virtual, so why wouldn't everything else converge to that point? I believe at some point all services and goods will turn virtual, it just makes sense as it consumes far less resources in our resource-conscious world now.

I think it's possible we'll get rudimentary sexbots before VR tech gets realistic enough for people to jump ship. I don't think they'll be cheap enough or realistic enough for the average person to care about them though.

I guess that makes sense. Not much use for humans if AI can outperform them at everything. At that point we become a leech on the system designed to sustain us. Those that have had power concentrated in their hands would rather rule the world without distractions, like other people.
