The only things it has going for it are the memorable characters and music. With that out of the way.. other FF games like VI are far superior.
First off, the game is a complete slog to play and progress through. Transitioning to 3D somehow convinced square to make navigating where you are going as confusing and frustrating as possible throughout most of it (thankfully they did away with this mindset in 8).
The characters themselves have issues. The main character has to troon himself out to progress through the game (which modern squenix built upon in the remake and decided to use that theme to make a big gay statement). One of the female characters is a set of big fighting tits whose gameplay mechanics pale in comparison to Sabin, the fighter of the previous game. Then you got another female character you can wasted experience and stat boosts since she dies early on, and then you get your typical black man with a gun just acting and talking like the nigger you see on tv all the time. I won’t waste any time on the other characters, moving on…
The materia system is the worst part and it’s all sorts of kike. It’s just a giant fiddly mess. The magic system in VI is so much better. You get to keep the magic you learn from espers for good, and you get stat boosts each time you level up.
All in all FFVII is not worth anyone’s time.
