After my last post on how to make amphetamine, some people asked about making psychedelics, I suggested psychedelics phenylethylamines, mescaline and it's analogs, and the 2C-X series.
However I remembered the good 'ol reductive alkylation of tryptamine, so here we go...
First you'll need to buy the amino acid, tryptophan, which can be purchased on amazon or elsewhere, then head to your local health food store, and buy some spearmint oil, this contains carvone which will be our ketone catalyst for the decarboxylation reaction to get our tryptamine.
Add 15 grams of tryptophan to 150ml of spearmint oil, heat and stir at 180C until the solution becomes completely clear.
The best way to work this up is to add an indiscriminate amount of benzoic acid to for the benzoic salt of tryptamine.
Decant the waste and filter off the salt.
Add to a container of 25% sodium hydroxide in water.
Collect the freebase salt by filtration.
Add 7 grams of tryptamine to a flask filled with dichloromethane, you can buy it online...
surround this flask with a dry ice bath, this is to prevent the Eschweiler-clarke reaction from creating beta-carbolines, which are suspected to cause Parkinson's disease!!!
Add 1.2ml of formaldehyde (amazon) to the flask.
Purchase sodium acetoxyborohydride from an online store, shouldn't be hard. Set aside 12 grams of it.
Next, get a chemical spatula and slowly add the sodium acetoxy to the flask with stirring.
After letting it sit for 24 hours, add a random amount of fumaric acid
boil the solvent (DCM) off, which is easy to do that it has a low boiling point
in the flask will be left a brown goo, this is because DMT forms an amorphous solid with many crystalize lattices competing for space.
to crystalize add to a flask of 1:1 ethyl acetate and heptane or hexane. Let it slowly evaporate in open air at room temperature
