Serious How to explain a giant gap in your resume?

I have like an 8 month gap bc I didn't want to work (and there was no decent jobs). What the fuck do I tell them when they ask me about it? I was thinking about lying that I worked as a freelancing web designer so they wouldn't have any references to call but idk it sounds retarded and I would need some obscure web sites (so they might believe I made them heuheueh) to show them. Thoughts?

Just make up some bullshit about taking classes and learning new hobby skills. Or taking time off and doing whatever.
