How to cope with shitty family?

I just got some texts from my family back home pretending to care about me, but I that they are glad I am not their problem since I am in college. My sister was talking to me about her long term boyfriend coming back from a trip and her being SO happy to have him back while she knows i am single and lonely as fuck. My mother and father are somehow together after so long I still I don't understand it. I want to never see them again but will have to go back for thanksgiving. How do I cope while there?

They don't talk to me and I don't talk to them tbh. It helps that I don't live with them for 9 months out the year

I don't expect them to be someone they're not, I see them for who they really are. Also, it helps to be financially independent.

They sound like they believe in family duty to keep in touch with you, they probably even live you because that's what families do. At the very least, try to keep a line of communication going with them so they don't freak out and show up at your door to check if youre alive or sth.
If going to visit family is too much for you to handle, make sure you have enough funds etc.. to survive for a while on your own, maybe even permanently

Why don't you want to see them? Jusr the constant fighting?
