If you have parents or a roommate that have placed a 4 digit pin lock on a Nest thermostat it is extremely easy to get around this.
If you want to activate the AC simply take the Nest off the wall and hold it against your stomach for a minute or two until your body heat warms it up. Then re-attach it to the wall.
And if you want to turn on the heat just toss the Nest into a freezer for a few minutes. Then re-attach it to the wall.
So much for "smart" thermostats.
