I'm not really a porn consumer myself, but is the porn world actually so consolidated that basically a single company (MindGeek) controlled most of the market?

I found an old 1998 book "Welcome to the internet" that lists at least 20 porn sites and as far as I know there have always been literally thousands. Or is this another "Reddit situation" where other websites exist but everyone just flocks to the one?
