I have a Master's in histology. I used to work in biotech, but many research and engineering fields have been hollowed out by contract and gig work and the fact that companies would much rather hire all of these poor pajeets coming in the US under the H1-B visa program. They are basically glorified indentured servants that have no benefits and are chronically-underpaid and they have to go back to their home countries the moment an employer removes their sponsorship which companies can do at any time for any reason.
In short, they are the perfect workers in the eyes of corporate America.
Most people think that this mostly happens in the IT or tech sectors but the private biotech and engineering fields make heavy use of foreign guest workers as well.
