How is suicide "selfish"?

So I'm NOT saying I'm suicidal or I want to die or anything. I'm fine, it's just that I've considered what would happen if I actually killed myself. If you think about it, dying would literally solve all of your problems. I talked with my family about this and they got really pissed off and said it was "selfish" to kill myself because it would hurt other people too. Pretty much everyone I've met thinks I'm a whiny little bitch so from a utilitarian perspective, it would maximize happiness if I committed suicide. I'm not gonna do it but I don't understand why it's considered unethical.

People who claim suicide is selfish are trying to find a "morale" reason no to commit suicide themselves. Suicide is not selfish, nor altruistic. It's your choice, and people who don't agree have to respect it ultimately.

They can't pretend they loved you just after you're dead, calling you names, "selfish", while they always treated you like shit when you were alive. It's too late anyway. Suicide is a way to leave the blatant hypocrisy of some of the closest people we know and don't particularly cherish.

But, there are other way to leave them. Suicide is a harsher message to send to the world, that is all.
