SSD are expensive for the storage you get and is more volatile than HDD, SSDs are flash memory. And i recommend keeping HDDs and SSDs powered at all times, they can degrade quicker with no power. the key to secure storage is the 3-2-1 method. 3 copies, 2 mediums and 1 extra location.
Disk rot is a non issue if you get the good discs, import the Japanese discs, physical media is still big there. The burner itself is a 100 at most and i use it for quite a bit due to being away from internet for longer periods, disc are just better for me and my life style in genral.
I use SSDs but that is for my main system and programs i use often, and games of course. I wont be using SSDs for long term storage for the foreseeable future
