What's the difference between a Core i5-260 and Core i5-2600?

What does the first number mean? The number of cores?

What does the 2600 mean? Is it the CPU speed?

Is Ryzen 5 x5600 the same as Ryzen 8 x5600?

PLEASE HELP this is too complicated :feelsohgod::feelsohgod::feelsohgod:

Where is the average hardware nerd when i need him? :feelsmage:

u mean i5 2400 @300 usd 4 Cores, 4 Threads @3.1GHz, Sandy Bridge.

You need 8/16 nowadays not 10 year old i5 cpu, so either intel i7 10700/11700 or ryzen 5800x would be good

I also recommend looking at price to performance charts so you avoid wasting too much money.

This is how I chose my 1660 super based on prices around me and performance.
