Complete mystery to me. That seems impossible unless this is the only thing you do on your free time (no self-development anymore, no learning anymore).

Once you're done with your day job (I have no idea why they're called a 9-5 when it's actually an 8-6 in most cases), and are done with your various chores, you have at most 4 hours of free time in front of you until you need to go to bed. This assumes you have no friends who send you text messages, no problems to actively think about, and that you don't need to do heavy cooking or cleaning this evening. 4 hours is hardly enough time to enjoy most video games thoroughly. They are notorious time sinks and every forced interruption ruins your mood. One could also argue all the pleasure of immersing yourself in a fantastic alternate universe is spoiled by the dread of having to work tomorrow.

The weekends are finally when you get to play, but you'll usually spend your whole Saturday mornings in bed because of sleep debt, you'll get distracted by something in the afternoon, and your Sundays will be spoiled by the notion of the approaching Monday. Often, your weekends are entirely "wasted" by family obligations.

Maybe it's just my pessimistic, moody imagination but I can't see how video games and adulting are compatible. If they are, it comes at the cost of complete personal and intellectual stagnation.

some people only need like 4-6 hours of sleep

I'm not in education, employment or training.

Most of the adults who play with any regularity are NEET, I suspect.

Surely that can't be true.. video games are a huge industry, with millions of players online everyday, while NEETs are a fraction of society.
I'm not sure of the answer myself though, honestly.

Well buying video games doesn't really preclude one from not playing them often. The industry caters to people with either short attention spans, or short amounts of time available for playing.

That's a big part of the explanation. It's over for big sleepers like me. I need 9 hours, almost half a day...

Came to the same conclusion. Especially multiplayer.

Most adult gamers seem to be total retards as well tbh.

If I ever touch games again I'd go for good single player RPGs maybe in my vacation one to two days.

Unlikely though. Expensive computer not worth it.

forgetting the commute as well. No idea how normies manage.

Work part time, live a meek (Not Jeremy Meeks) existence so no friends or much responsibilities

Other people and doing favors for them take up so much of peoples time, this is where most of Normies time is devoted to their significant other, Women usually have beta orbiters doing everything for them

When you're alone its really an open book of a day, most days i'll be on the computer for 8-10 hours, walk dog at night, repeat...

A pattern I've noticed on "gamer" forums is that unemployed men and young students (often failing / underachieving) are over-represented.

This.

Saying 4 hours is not enough to enjoy a video game simply betrays how spoiled you are by free time. An adult life means managing free time expectations and thus finding enjoyment from 1-2 hours of play a day, max. Most popular games don't last longer than that per match/session, the exception being campaigns and RPGs which no one but NEETs complete in one sitting anyway.

Work part time,
Yeah, that's basically the only solution if you want to live a life of experience and pleasure instead of absurd work. I'm surprised it isn't more popular. Less than 10% of men in my country work part time.

I probably have some residual depression/ADHD left from my NEET years. I am unable to enjoy multimedia except through binging.

yeah when you get a real job and have to drive to work and pay bills and do chores you don't have time for shit.

Are you not NEET anymore?
I will never go full NEET anymore. Psychologically, it's unbearable for me to completely self-indulge in a parasitic lifestyle with no personal work or production ever. However, I do agree that the current paradigm of working 40 hours per week is absurd, unnecessary and cruel.

4 hours is a really long time when you consider a Cod match is less than 10 minutes and even notoriously long game like mobas take 45 minutes per game at most. Just play for 2-3 hours ad use the other 1-2 for a more constructive hobby

Autists like me only like single-player RPGs and RTS, which are notorious time sinks. Many lives have been ruined by these game genres. The producers probably deserve prison.

A multiplayer game of starcraft, Rome Total War, or supcom:FA almost never lasts more than 1:15

Ah, I see.
Well, in response to the thread, I agree. It's about more than just video games, however, it's the much larger and more intimidating issue of free time in general. It's not even an adult only issue, when I was in school as a kid, life was about making it to the weekend, surviving long enough for Summer break. I never enjoyed school days, there simply was never enough time in between work, mundane activities, and sleep. And this is coming from someone who never really had friends, or a relationship, I have no idea how normal folk done it.
I just don't get it, I don't understand how anyone on the planet is able to live a fulfilling life.
God.. everything is so strange, man, everything without exception. Everything is a convoluted, never ending, impossible to solve puzzle, and I'm tired of trying to solve it, I'm tired of pretending to comprehend anything at all. I wish I was a simpler creature, living in a simpler time, more simply and easily satisfied. :feelsbadman:

Very well said, I identify and agree completely.

Well the Christians have an explanation for our shitty lives: original sin and the Fall. It's not very convincing, but it has the merit of being honest. Being human sucks a great deal. Most animals are happier.

I've thought the same thing, during the week there is also the problem of mental exhaustion

I genuinely don't understand this either, I made a thread about it a while back.
I feel like everyone in the world knows something I don't, that allows them to enjoy things, and not want to die all the time.
Maybe people like us are just cursed, defective, doomed.

I don't think there is a more horrible idea, than that all this is dictated solely by fuckin juices in our brain. :feelsrope:

Actually I think you may have it backwards. Most people can't see what's right in front of them, they don't even realize what their lives really consist of doing. This is probably due to several reasons, most obvious of which being that normies live at least partially satisfied lives, with little free time. Why would anyone potentially risk their fulfillment and illusory happiness by questioning themselves?

I suppose. It is such an unsatisfying answer, though. We can always learn, but we can never forget.. it is far more comforting to consider that maybe there is something we have yet to grasp, that will someday solve these issues, rather than the idea we are burdened with a forbidden, maddening knowledge, that once learned, one is forever cursed with.

Working and playing video games don't go together. High IQ thread btw. I'd +1 this thread but on this High IQ forum we just know when something is a high rated post, simply by looking at it.

People who make money from creating a product that you gladly consume should be imprisoned? Because it's their fault that you can't control yourself when consuming? JFL
