Chinese had the same thing happen. Most of it population were not intelligent farmers (like in any other country). They just have better IQ via genes. Yes now the government has introduced hard educational system for schoolers to select geniuses and give them more status. But that's not gonna help much. Only genetic engineering and banning stupid people from breeding can solve it.

medieval china had the imperial examination system where commoners could take a standardized test to become bureaucrats. this meant that smart but low born people could become rich and powerful, which meant that they had a reproductive advantage over stupid people
Yeah, this + the Chinese culture allowing for polygamy and concubine-keeping, which those lowborn bureaucrats would benefit from, seems to be what most people explain it with.
