Men can basically pump and dump any foid he comes across any time he wants, and can just run away not having to provide resources to the child. If a lot of men die, it really only takes one man to impregnate a whole village of females since they all have an equal chance to reproduce. If more women die off than men, then it would cause competition between males over the right to sex and reproduction, and many men would be left out.
