To be honest, gaming and especially anime communities were always filled with proto-trannies. Taking moe too seriously and pretending to be 'little girls'. /a/ for example was very notorious for this. Now because anime spiked in popularity this issues are more notorious.

A lot of weebs are like that, even on wizchan you can find them, always avatarfagging and being obnoxious.
