I thought brewing beer or mead took months, but I just learned that hard apple cider can be made in only 2-3 weeks. Even better, you can brew it directly in the bottle or jug of apple juice that you buy from the grocery store and by adding sugar its easy to get it up to 10-12% alcohol content. So my plan now is to brew at least a gallon a day, until I've built up a stockpile of drinkable hard cider, allowing me to get drunk every night on the cheap. All you need to add is sugar and brewing yeast. Basically, I'm going to come home each night with a jug of juice and a $3 airlock you can buy at a brewing store, and toss in the ingredients and store it in one of my three closets. After my first jug is ready to rack, I'll be able to cut back to brewing a new jug every time I finish drinking one.

I'm just afraid the Universe is going to destroy my plans like it has destroyed everything else in my life. Is there anything I'm overlooking here by attempting this? Is this a viable way hack reality and escape into the alcoholic dreamworld, without breaking the bank?

skill mogs me

I've done that a few times before. It works; there's no issue there. But the taste is not that good tbh.

Haha nice. Considered the same some time ago when I fucked up some fruit compote with to much sugar. To bad the yeast wasn't good anymore. Was normal one anyway. Do you necessarily have to use brewing yeast?

It takes exactly 1 cup of sugar per gallon. I prefer brown sugar. It's less harsh tasting than White sugar.

Any kind of yeast will work. You don't even need to "prime" it.

The trick is to mix up the sugar before you put the bubbler on. I used the original cap and shook the hell out of it until it was mixed. Some Sugar will settle on the bottom - but so will bread yeast!

If the fermenting area is warm 90°f, then it can be made in 3 days!!!

Once it stops bubbling stick it in the refrigerator for a few days to settle the yeast and clarify.

Pour it SLOWLY and don't disturb the yeast or it will taste gross!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips. Already got a batch on the go, and I guess I lucked out by using some natural cane sugar. Will try brown next.

With brown sugar you have to pack the measure cup!

It's like the difference between rot-gut and smooth. Also.... It takes a 1/2 cup of the booze to get used to the weird flavor! After that, it kicks in and starts to taste good.
